Frequently Asked Questions
Does Anthem travel?
Since 2007 we have performed at Weddings the length and breadth of Ireland in a wide range of venues from large Cathedrals and Hotels to small country Churches. We've even done weddings in France and Barcelona!
We are Dublin based so additional charges apply for travel but if your happy to have us we'd be delighted to be there on your big day!
How much do Anthem charge?
The charge is dependant on the number of singers you choose and the travel distance involved. We recommend a minimum of five singers plus accompanist if you want a full choral sound with prices starting at €650.
I have no idea what songs to choose!
It's amazing how many couples tell us they don't know where to start when picking music for the ceremony and yet after talking to our Musical Director they have put together a complete songlist. The songlist generally includes songs that are meaningful or important to them, or which will reflect the atmosphere they want to create at the ceremony.
Can I have any music I want at my wedding?
As far as we're concerned, absolutely! Our Musical Director will arrange any piece with multi-part harmonies, so that even a solo can be sung as a choir piece if required. He will also will advise you where he considers that a particular song might not work.
If you are having a church service, it is important to remember that it will be a religious ceremony and is therefore up to you to ensure that your priest is happy with your choice of music.
For some guidance or suggestions, please check out our Sample Wedding Music Lists.
How many songs do I need for my wedding?
If you are having the full wedding mass, you generally need around 8-10 songs.
Parts of the mass ceremony, such as The Psalm, the Communion, and the Signing of the Registry, require longer songs, while The Lighting of the Candles, The Offertory, and The Sign of Peace generally require shorter songs.
We also recommend songs for the entrance (processional) and exit (recessional).
Can members of my family or friends sing?
We are delighted to facilitate a family member or friend singing at a wedding ceremony – it makes it such a personal experience. Our Musical Director will discuss this with you when you are picking your songlist, and if appropriate, can add backing harmonies to a solo. He will contact your singer directly, and they will generally rehearse together before the actual performance!
How many singers would I want for my wedding?
This depends on the style of music you choose. A songlist with larger choral numbers will generally need a minimum of six singers, with accompanist. Of course we can perform these numbers with a smaller group, but the music does lose some of its impact. The accompaniment includes piano and percussion (other instruments are available on request), or use of the full church organ if this is available and requested. We supply our own amplification. Our Musical Director will sit down with you to discuss the choice of music, and the number of singers that would best perform the songs that you pick.
Would the choir be visible?
This depends on the logistics of the church, and your own preferences. But it's usually a great visual spectacle for you and your guests to have a fully robed Gospel choir dancing at the altar, and literally leading an interactive service.
Do you only perform at the ceremony?
No we also perform at the reception, or pre-reception. We would generally perform a repertoire of pop, rock, jazz and blues numbers, and of course, any song that you might ask us to perform. If you would like an idea of the type of music we would sing at such an event, why not check out our Sample Event Playlists.
What happens after I chose Anthem for my Wedding?
We cannot stress enough that the ceremony should be personal to you, and this can be best reflected in the music you choose. So, approximately 8 weeks before your wedding day, our Musical Director will contact you to put together a songlist – which of course can be changed as other ideas spring to mind. He will be able to provide you with ideas that we know work – and what won’t work! You will be amazed that, with a little prompting, and maybe with reference to our Sample Wedding Music, you will easily pick your own music.
If you have further questions then please don't hesitate to Contact Anthem.
